The couple has to send – at least two weeks before the marriage – a copy by fax o e-mail about the following documents (and they will bring the originals on the day fixed for the ceremony):
GERMANY – NETHERLANDS – BELGIUM – GREECE – SPAIN – FRANCE – SWITZERLAND – AUSTRIA – LUXEMBOURG – PORTUGAL - TURKEY : certificate of capacity to contract marriage (ehefaehigkeitszeugnis) as stated in the article no. 116 of our Civil Law.
U.S.A. CITIZENS OR AUSTRALIAN : A declaration in front of the Consulate in Italyconcerning the couple’s details and stating that there’s no impediment to the wedding. The U.S.A. Consulate in Italy is in Milan ( via Principe Amedeo 2/10 tel. 02290351 fax 0229001165). The Australian Consulate is also in Milan (Via Borgogna, 2 - 20122 MilanoTel. 02777041 - Fax 0277729444 ) The Consule’s signature has to be certified in the local “Prefettura”.
Other States: certificate that there’s no impediment to the wedding issued by the foreign Consulate in Italy. The Consule’s signature must be certified in the local “Prefettura” (with the exception of the European Citizens, like British) .
COPIES OF IDENTITY CARDS OR PASSPORTS ABOUT THE WEDDING COUPLE and their two witnesses
IF THE FOREIGNER BRIDE IS DIVORCED, PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE TO VERIFY THAT THERE'S NO TEMPORARY IMPEDIMENT TO CONTRACT A NEW MARRIAGE IN ITALY
As stated in the law no. 94/2009 now
- thenon-European Union foreignerspouses
- the European Union foreigner spouses living in Italy
to contract marriage in Italy they have to prove theirlegally staying in Italy (contact our office to verify the document needed).
If the bride and bridegroom do not speak any Italian , they have to come with a translator:
In this case please provide also a copy of the identity card or passport of this person.
Flowers and music are allowed.
When the wedding is celebrated on Saturday-Sunday or after working hours, the Town
Hall is opened one hour before the starting of the ceremony.
Punctuality is kindly recommended !
